17th Meeting of the Europol Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group

On 3–4 November this year (Monday-Tuesday), the 17th meeting of the Europol Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group (JPSG) will take place at the European Parliament in Brussels. As Denmark, holding the presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2025, declared an opt-out in the area of justice and home affairs, the Danish parliament cannot carry out the duties of the presidency of the Europol JPSG. As a result, in accordance with the group’s rules, its chairmanship continues to be held by Poland.

By the decision of Speaker of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia, the members of the Sejm’s delegation to the JPSG are Konrad Frysztak, Deputy Chairman of the Administration and Internal Affairs Committee and member of the European Union Affairs Committee, and Paweł Śliz, Chairman of the Justice and Human Rights Committee.

Deputy Konrad Frysztak, in accordance with the decision of the Speaker of the Sejm, serves as chairman of the Sejm’s delegation to the JPSG and will co-chair the meeting (together with Javier Zarzalejos, chairman of the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, and Senator Kazimierz Michał Ujazdowski).

The JPSG meeting will include interventions and discussions on the Europol’s activities – including the performance of its management board – between February and November 2025, the future of Europol, the activities of the European Data Protection Supervisor, the protection of fundamental rights and Europol’s activities in relation to the war in Ukraine. The issues of necessity and proportionality of lawful access to data for law enforcement and organised crime against the environment, including trafficking in waste and protected species, will also be discussed.
