Meeting of the COSAC Troika at the Senate

The preparations for the Meeting of Chairpersons of the Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs of Parliaments of the European Union (COSAC) as the main topic of the Troika meeting.
On 26 January 2025, the Polish Senate hosted the meeting of the Troika, presided over by Tomasz Grodzki, Chair of the Senate’s European Union Affairs Committee, and Agnieszka Pomaska, Chair of the Sejm’s European Union Affairs Committee, as representatives of the Polish presidency. The meeting was primarily devoted to organisational matters.
The meeting at the Senate was held the day before the Meeting of the COSAC Chairpersons, as part of the parliamentary dimension of the presidency of the Council of the EU which Poland exercises in the first half of 2025.
The Troika adopted the draft agenda of the Meeting of the COSAC Chairpersons, the draft agenda for the plenary meeting of the LXXIII Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs of Parliaments of the European Union (COSAC) to be held next June, as well as the outline of the 43rd Bi-annual Report. Participants gave their consent to the participation of parliamentary delegations from outside the European Union, e.g. from the United Kingdom, Norway, Switzerland, or Kosovo. Moreover, they discussed the decision of the Polish presidency not to invite the Georgian delegation for the conference in Warsaw, and supported the key argument behind the decision, i.e. that since Georgia has suspended its negotiations and accession process, it should not be treated on a par with other candidate countries.
The COSAC Troikas bring together representatives of national parliaments of EU Member States and are organised within the framework of interparliamentary cooperation. The Troika is made up of chairpersons of parliamentary committees for Union affairs from three Member States of the current, preceding and subsequent Council Presidency, as well as the representatives of the European Parliament.
